Three ways on How to remove Loctite bolts
Loctite is the generator of an anaerobic thread locker, and when it comes to removing the different types of this brand, it can be found in many options that can be used for various situations.
Loctite offers a variety of bolt solutions. Loctite bolts are versatile and practical, from a short-term solution involving simple tools to permanent solutions for long-term projects.
1. Using a socket or wrench
If it’s a bolt, then we want to remove them. A wrench or socket of the same size as the bolt is the first option the user should consider. Indeed, this will suffice when we must remove purple 222 or blue 242. Each of these colors signifies a specific resistance or torque force needed to remove the bolts.
When we must remove the purple 222, it will be more than enough with a wrench. This type of bolt only needs a good 20 ft. lbs. of torque at most. Any user can apply this amount of force with a wrench. Usually, this amount of torque is one of the lowest that Loctite can offer.
At that point, a little more force is required. The application of 50 foot-pounds of torque may be necessary to remove the bolts altogether. It may take some effort, but using a wrench should be possible if you're under normal conditions.
The real problem is when we encounter Loctite red bolts. These bolts are typically used for construction because of their high strength. That means if you visit a construction site, you may see these bolts in use. It takes 3000 PSI to remove them using a wrench or socket. They are powerful and should not be removed with just any tools. Instead, it would be best to use an industrial tool to remove them.
2. Use an acetylene or propane torch.
Once the duty has been performed, it is necessary to implement some heat on the bolt to remove the removal successfully. The resistance of this kind of screwdriver is very high, and hence it is essential to have a smoky flame used for the screwdriver. Although there are many other kinds of tools available for removing bolts, none gives the same satisfaction as a screwdriver of this kind.
A large flame is needed to heat each Loctite bolt because the melting temperature of these tools is 550 degrees Fahrenheit. Having a lower temperature may provide some workability, but not enough. The necessary heat can usually be obtained with the yellow starting flame.
Here's how to remove the bolt without getting hurt. Ensure the gas torch is always pointing away from you and anyone else. Now place the end of the flame on the bolt head. To get it fully heated evenly, keep moving the torch in circular movements over the bolt head.
There is a common misconception that large amounts of heat are needed to strike an object, especially metal. Heat and metal do not interact in this manner due to an object's ability to adjust to a particular temperature. The key is for the user to find the proper thermometer reading and wait before striking the thing again.
The heat travels down the length of the pin to the last section, where the Loctite can give in. This is better than what other people choose to do to heat a bolt to a little red hot.
Turn off the flame after some time, and then use the socket wrench. It will be possible to loosen the bolt easily and quickly with sufficient pressure.
3. Using brake cleaner
People who don't wish to apply heat can use a brake cleaner. This implement should be sprayed on the inside of the bolt. This is a liquid that can decrease the resistance between Loctite bolts.
